Alex's Journey to the Grave

Alex's Journey to the Grave is a visual novel about a boy trapped by fate and a girl in dire need of a friend. Help guide them through some of the hardest decisions of their lives as they experience warmth, connection, tragedy, the inevitability of death... and the antics of a mysterious black cat.

A boy escaped his fate, only to be trapped by another. A girl found her conviction, but never the chance to act on it.

Alex and Alex meet at a low point in both their lives, in a random online encounter that neither could have ever seen coming. An in-person meeting is inevitable as their connection swiftly grows, but the girl's smiling face only intensifies the dark cloud of guilt in the trapped boy's mind.

One keeps a dark, pressing secret, and the other is struck by tragedy. Their connection is forged stronger than steel by hardship, and they continue to grow closer with each and every day they share.

The boy's fate now pursues the both of them, but as a familiar black cat joins them in their new life together... a spark of hope remains.

A 20 year old boy raised more by the internet than his own parents, Alex still managed to grow up into a kind and empathetic young man, even if a bit socially inept.

He's long relied on escapism when feeling down, and is obsessed with any kind of fictional world he can get himself lost inside. Working at a bookstore was the best job he ever had.

He moved to the city two years ago, escaping his dead-end town and financial abuse at the hands of his mother. He quickly built a promising new life for himself, but inevitably it was not meant to be...

A bright, responsible young college student, Alex is a 20 year old girl with a strong sense of conviction and a teasing, snuggly nature.

Despite her outgoing exterior, her hobbies are a lot more solitary and nerdy than you might expect. She'd hate to admit it around the wrong people, but she's big into anime, manga, and video games, among other things.

A traumatic event during her high school days is what led her to spend so much time alone in the first place. Being outcast just for trying to do the right thing... really makes it hard to trust again. 

She tries not to think about it, but being alone really does get to her.


A female cat of unknown age and origin that Alex met in his hometown. He thinks about her often, and has never met another cat quite like her since he left.

The intelligence behind those eyes feels unnatural. She acts like a regular cat, but the timing of everything she does seems so calculated...

In any case, he's extremely grateful for what she did for him in the past. So why doesn't he ever think to go see her again?

The demo consists of Act 1 out of the 6 that will be in the full game. Act 1 is 15,000 words or around 1.5 hours long for the average reader, telling the story of how our two main characters met and had their fates intertwined.
